Over the many years of progression and regression, video
games may have improved in including diversity in games from gender roles to
race to GLBTQ.

Annotated Bibliography

The bibliography I chose to use was a book that discusses women's role in comics, video games, film, and Television. It occasionally picks characters from on the forms of media to analyze them for their roles. The discussions range from either positive or negative roles that impact the audience.

Since I'm doing my research on diversity in video games, I think this bibliography could help me analyze women in video games from the past and compare to this year. The article was well organized so it's easy for me to look back on the parts that I really need, like the video game section.

HipHop
The article DeSean Robinson wrote about with Hiphop was a very familiar piece to me. It didn't affect me on a personal level nor can I relate to him, but I did appreciate his passion and resolve. I like how he realistic he was about his circumstances (though someone may call it pessimism) and how hip hop music impacted his life a great deal. And there aren't a whole lot of kids who are as lucky as Robinson, who finds a way to escape the tragedies that happen in his neighborhood. The piece felt real and honest to me and it was a perfect example of how entertainment reflects culture.

Interview
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHxzxgwJTFc
This was interview for the move The Avengers. Now while I love watching Scarlet Johansson's responses, there are things the interviewer from Extra did that was wrong. One of such was openly asking a private question about Johansson's body and clothing without any regard to how uncomfortable she might feel about it (what was underneath her costume? really?). I might've given this interviewer the benefit of a doubt if he asked Jeremy Renner the same question. But he didn't and he targeted Scarlet based on her gender pretty much. And notice he doesn't even apologize for pretty much offending Johansson, despite it being obvious that she was offended and upset about it. I liked how she managed to take the high road and put the interviewer in his place.
Lesson of the day? Maintain fair questions at all times and avoid sexist questions. It will make you look like a bad journalist.

Community
First thing I think about when I hear the word community is the TV show (it's pretty funny). But then I think about all the groups and events I've participated with my whole life. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's one of those words that I don't truly know the definition of, until I take the time to look it up. This chapter of the textbook explains the absolute importance of being with your family, friends, classmates, and neighbors.
The three assumptions of a community was: 1) They give us stability. 2) They serve our needs. 3) they accept us for who we are. And's important for everyone to have because everyone will need one. Especially when it comes to religious institutions, schools, and organizations. Because without communications, there wouldn't be a society, or a country, or even a nation. Nowadays, communities may not always follow the three assumption but I think it's the approach and attempt that counts.

So far....
I have a pretty solid idea of what I'm writing for my essay. I have most of the pictures in my computer and I have a couple of things in the house I can use for my collage. I just need to put my ideas together.

High School Cliches
I have to admit—I never really
suffered nor benefited from clichés in high school. Mainly because I never
stayed in the same school, I spent my first two years in one school and my last
two in another. The point is that I never stuck around to see how it affected
my fellow classmates, so I can’t really relate to any of the student in this article.
But I found it incredibly interesting and saddening to know what teens roughly
my age had to go through for four years. It’s hard to have an identity when
coming-of-age and knowing where you belong in the world with or without
guidance from parents. And it certainly doesn’t help to have social groups like
nerds, jocks, or cheerleaders to make you feel inadequate about yourself.
